Mossel Bay South Africa 2022 - 2023 program

The project objective is to replace the product pumps and construct a new pump bay Removal of various high risk non standard equipment...

HOW
The project required a shutdown of the gantry in order to execute mechanical works and to tie in the new pumps. Initial projections reflected that the shutdown may be as long as 25 days which would have had a huge impact on the terminal and the Shell SA business. The team brainstormed
different ideas and settled on the idea to break up the works into smaller work packs. Together with Shell Operations, it was decided that some of the works will be complete in phases and during the weekends when the volumes at the terminal are low, thereby minimizing the impact. To date the team
have successfully complete Five “mini shutdowns”, with one remaining. Each mini shutdown required its own PSSR SOF to be signed off. As a result of breaking up the works, the main shutdown has been reduced to approximately 7 days, with much less risk associated with it.

BENEFITS
The main shutdown has been reduced to approximately 7 days.

The successful implementation of this story lies in the following aspects:

  • No leaks
  • Executed during a time when the country was on high alert as a result of COVID 19
